Here are some pics from the last Battle Bots event I competed at.
Gage with "Vlad the Impaler" and "Vladiator" - here is Gage working on his two beasts. Vlad is a legend and Battlebots and Vladiator is fast becoming one!
Gage working on what's left of "Vlad the Impaler"
This is all that was left of Vlad after his fight with Macavore. Vlad is one of my favorite bots and Gage is a really nice guy. He was more than willing to answer all my questions and talk to me about Battlebots. Vlads fight was directly after one of my fights and I got to see it close up! It was awesome - TV does not do it justice as the sound of Mechavore cutting Vlad like a tin can and the sight of Vlad never giving up and pounding Mecavore to the end was what Battlebots is all about. I actually thought Vlad might have won the fight, but the judges gave more weight to the extreme damage inflicted then
to aggressiveness and strategy. The most impressive thing to me besides Gages driving was the fact that Vlad sustained a such incredible damage and never gave up or stopped working!
Top view Matts Bammer - This is Matts Bammer before the battles. MB won 3 out of 4 fights at the May Treasure Island event and made it to the Battlebots TV show 3 time. We were shown on the "highlights" beating "Rhode Hog" and I made it on camera giving my Teammate Trent Hare a "High Five". We made it on the highlight twice in the battle with "Backlash". Unfortunately the highlights showed MB being dismembered and flipped by BL. That's showbiz!
Side view of Deb Bot - This show some of the inner workings of Deb Bot and the damage she received. The front wedge is barely hanging on, the sprockets are bent, the and rims damaged and the frame is spaghetti. On to the next round!
Jim Smentkowski and me - Jim is the creator of both "Nightmare" and "Backlash". Both those robots have vertical "wheels of death" and are very effective. Matts Bammer found this out first hand as I made a bad move and Backlash tore MB up and flipped it over. We made the highlight reel on Battlebots one night with our spectacular loss! There were parts flying everywhere. Backlash actually tore the 1/8th inch 6061 t6 aluminum that was on the sides of the Bammer. Anyway, Jim is a really great guy who was totally helpful and very interesting to talk to. Check out his web page www.robotcombat.com as it is among the very best for Battlebots.
